Your eyes do more than help you see—they also reflect your overall health. At Meriden Eye Care, we provide thorough, state-of-the-art comprehensive eye exams to help you stay ahead of vision changes and detect eye conditions early. Whether you’re updating your prescription or managing a health condition like diabetes, our experienced team—led by Dr. Luiza Youssefi, DO—is here to support your long-term eye health.
We welcome patients of all ages at our Meriden and Fairfield offices and are currently accepting new patients.
A basic vision screening checks how clearly you can see—but that’s just one part of your eye health. A comprehensive eye exam goes much deeper, assessing:
Your overall vision (including near, far, and peripheral vision)
How well your eyes focus, move, and work together
The health of your retina, optic nerve, and internal eye structures
Early signs of conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts
We also review your medical history, medications, and lifestyle to get a full picture of your ocular health.
Most eye exams at Meriden Eye Care take 30–45 minutes and may include:
Visual Acuity Testing – Measuring how clearly you see at different distances
Refraction Testing – Determining your eyeglass or contact lens prescription
Corneal Topography – Mapping the shape of your cornea for contact lens fitting
Slit-Lamp Exam – Checking for cataracts, corneal damage, or other eye conditions
OCT Imaging – Capturing high-resolution images of the retina and optic nerve
Glaucoma Testing – Measuring eye pressure to detect risk of glaucoma
For children or non-verbal patients, we may use specialized tools like automatic refraction to assess vision without requiring verbal responses.
The American Optometric Association recommends eye exams every 1–2 years for adults ages 18–60. After age 61, annual exams are advised.
You may need more frequent exams if you:
Are over 60
Have a chronic condition like diabetes or high blood pressure
Have a history of eye surgery or eye injury
Wear glasses or contact lenses (you’ll need annual prescription updates)
In addition to updating your prescription, a comprehensive eye exam can detect:
Refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism)
Cataracts and other age-related changes
Glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy
Dry eye syndrome
Eye strain from screen use
Even systemic health issues like high blood pressure or diabetes
Routine exams help you catch issues early, protect your vision, and stay informed about your overall health.
Annual eye exams are one of the easiest and most effective ways to maintain your vision and overall eye health. Whether you're due for a routine checkup or managing a specific concern, the team at Meriden Eye Care is here for you.
